Timothy Jenkins "The majority whip in the House of Representatives is a black congressman from the state of South Carolina. That obviously wasn't the case when we were there before." Timothy Jenkins is a civil rights lawyer. He worked as a voter registration volunteer throughout the south in the early 1960s, and with the Obama campaign in Orangeburg, South Carolina, traveling with Larry Guyot, in 2008. "[But] between blacks and whites in the United States there still is a vast difference, and it will not end when you simply change the head of state for the national government. We also have pockets of police brutality in the Deep South, and we also have some of those problems of police brutality in northern cities, even in cities where minorities are elected officials."
